In Heaven

“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.” Matthew 6:9
First, we have to know that Heaven is real. It’s where God lives. When Jesus said, “Our Father in heaven,” He was connecting us to where our Father is. He lifts our focus to the throne room in Heaven. Jesus is in Heaven, sitting at God’s right hand. Heaven is where God rules, where He sits enthroned. It’s a place of dominion, authority and power over every principality, and stronghold. This is why the Apostle Paul admonishes the Colossians with this: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:1-2
The best Christian living comes from minds that are fixed on heaven. They realize that their lives are now hidden with Christ in God, and since Jesus is enthroned in heaven, their thoughts and hearts are connected to heaven also.
Jesus looked forward to heaven and so should we – recognizing that our citizenship is in heaven. I know this to be true because He said these words: “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:2-3
My prayer for us today is that we set our minds on things above.
